This page compares the black standard-width ghd Chronos and ghd Platinum+
listed on the official US and UK sites. Chronos Max is a separate wide-plate
tool. Colours, bundles and other generations may include different extras, so
a model-family name is insufficient evidence for a particular box.

Choice matrix: product descriptions, not test scores
Need a standard-width fixed-temperature tool and value the shorter
documented shutoff? Consider Chronos.
Prefer the Platinum+ control design or already own one that works? There
is no evidenced need to replace it.
Need to set the temperature yourself? Compare an adjustable model outside
this pair.
Need a wider plate? Compare widths in the existing guide; do not confuse
Chronos Max with this model.
What the technology names do and do not establish
ghd describes Chronos as “motion-responsive” and Platinum+ as “predictive,”
and publishes separate branded test and marketing claims for each. Those
claims have different comparison conditions. They do not establish that one
will style your sections faster, produce a safer result or be less damaging
under the same routine. The documented control distinction is real: the
standard models use a preset temperature while their described monitoring
systems differ. If you need a dial, neither page supplies it.
Both models have rounded bodies and floating plates described by the maker.
That can inform how you expect to handle a turn or bend, but it is not a
measured ergonomics result. A 1-inch/26 mm listing places these in the
standard-width category; the width alone cannot predict results on long,
short, dense or fine sections. The
plate-width guide
covers that separate choice.

No replacement case yet
Start with the task your current tool cannot perform. If there is no missing task, keep the tool you have.
This checklist organises your decision. It does not test products or predict results.
Decide from controls and ownership details
Both tools offer a standard-width preset format. The shorter 10-minute Chronos
shutoff versus Platinum+'s 30 minutes is a real difference, but neither
interval is inherently preferable. Check the exact local package, plug and
warranty before purchase; a different colour or bundle may add an accessory
without changing the control type. Manufacturer sensor names and separate
branded tests do not make a head-to-head performance ranking.
If you want a selectable setting, use the
control guide
rather than choosing between these two. If you want another standard preset
choice, the
Gold versus Platinum+ comparison
covers different ownership details. Keep a working Platinum+ when the only
proposed reason to switch is Chronos marketing language.
