Choose the setup you will actually perform. A heated roller kit needs a powered heating unit and its exact readiness, placement and handling directions. An unheated self-grip roller has no electrical heating unit, but a maker's styling method may still begin with a dryer. If you already own one setup and it covers your intended sections, the other is optional rather than an automatic upgrade.

Heated kit starts in a heating unit; self-grip kit uses a separate dryer before the unheated roller stage.

Question Heated example Unheated example
Item Conair HS400 Ceramic Flocked Hot Rollers, current US listing; HS400 manual Beauty Works Bouncy Blowout self-grip kit, UK listing
Equipment Powered case, 20 assorted rollers and 20 heated clips in the US listing 12 unheated rollers in two stated sizes, separate clips and a dryer-led method
Readiness and closure Conair listing describes a ready dot and clips; follow its manual for handling. Place on the section after the instructed preparation and secure with supplied clips.
Space Needs a safe surface and power for the heating unit. Needs space for rollers and separate clips; a dryer may also be used.

The HS400's current US listing and model-specific manual together support this example. The manual's operating and hot-part directions govern actual use. They do not establish voltage compatibility for the UK, Canada or Australia. The Beauty Works kit's dryer-led sequence is not “heatless” as a whole merely because the rollers themselves are unheated.

Decide from coverage and workspace

List the sections you want to set and compare their number and width with each pack. A powered case can be inconvenient in a cramped workspace even if the roller count fits. Separate clips can be fiddly for another person; try fastening one accessible section before assuming a full set is simple. Do not infer equal curl shape, set time, hot-part temperature or finishing result from roller labels. Those depend on the exact instructions and your routine.

For diameter, width and a hypothetical coverage worksheet, use the roller-size guide. For the unheated method, use the self-grip tutorial and its exact product directions. The listings were checked on 11 October 2026 for the markets named above; no cross-market electrical permission or current stock claim is made.

Compare the practical setup before the result

For the HS400, make a place for the heating case and a safe path for its cord, then check the model-specific manual for readiness, handling and unplugging. Count the rollers and heated clips you expect to use. Do not substitute another Conair manual simply because it shows a similar case. For the unheated Beauty Works kit, make room for the separate dryer and the supplied clips. The two setups occupy different stages and workspace even when both aim for a shaped finish.

If you style only a few front sections, either full kit may add more equipment than necessary. If you plan many sections at once, check counts by diameter, not the headline number alone. The HS400 US listing divides its 20 rollers among three labelled sizes; the Beauty Works kit supplies two sizes and a different closure. Decide which sizes can physically cover your intended sections before choosing based on the phrase “hot roller” or “self-grip.”
