A diffuser fits only when its connection matches the dryer and stays secure without blocking the intended airflow. First identify whether the dryer uses a friction-fit nozzle, an adjustable collar, a proprietary lock, or magnets. For a slip-on attachment, measure the outside of the dryer’s outlet where the collar would sit and compare it with the attachment maker’s stated fit range and exclusions.

First checks

  1. Write down the full dryer model and market or region variant from the label.
  2. Identify the attachment mechanism from the manual.
  3. Measure the outside width of the intended mounting point, then read the attachment’s stated range.

Connection What to verify Do not assume
Friction-fit Outlet outside diameter and collar depth A similar-looking nozzle has the same size
Adjustable collar Published minimum and maximum fit, plus retention The word “universal” covers all models
Proprietary or magnetic Exact model/variant on maker compatibility list Another brand’s magnetic part will attach
Any type Airflow clearance, secure seating and return terms A loose attachment is safe to use

Measure the correct surface

Measure the outside of the dryer outlet at the point the diffuser collar would grip, not the face of the diffuser bowl. If the outlet is oval, tapered, or interrupted by buttons, one circular diameter may be insufficient: ask the accessory maker for model confirmation. Do not guess a fit range from a photograph.

Use exact model documentation

A Dyson spare-part listing provides a compatibility list for a specific diffuser. Dyson’s Nural support also notes that older attachments may physically fit while some machine features differ, with an exception for the wide-tooth comb. Those statements are model-specific and do not establish fit for another dryer. Conair’s DF09NT manual describes its own “universal” attachment and fitting instructions; the label alone cannot verify your unnamed dryer.

Before buying

Check the exact dryer model and region name, attachment part number, mounting design, published dimensions or explicit compatible-model list, and return policy. A shared marketing name can cover regional variants. If the fit is unverified, label it unverified and ask the manufacturer rather than forcing the attachment onto the dryer.

Measurement diagram in words
  1. Dryer body → outlet lip: measure the outside at the grip point.
  2. Attachment bowl → collar: compare its stated opening range with that measurement.
  3. Check depth, tabs or magnets, retention, and open airflow path before use.

Record the fit check before ordering

Write the dryer brand, full model identifier, region or market, outlet shape, connection type, and the diffuser part number in one place. For a friction-fit collar, note the outside measurement at the actual grip point and whether the outlet tapers. Then copy the maker’s published range or compatible-model list. If a range is missing, mark the result unknown rather than choosing the nearest-looking listing.

Check more than diameter

A collar can match one measurement and still be too shallow, interfere with controls, or sit loosely on a tapered outlet. A magnetic connection requires matching parts, not merely a round opening. Verify that the attachment can seat securely as instructed and leave the intended outlet clear. If the maker cannot confirm fit, read the return terms before purchase and avoid forcing or modifying either part. Physical fit also does not guarantee that model-specific smart features work.
